Elizabeth Huculak – President
Principal/Founder, E. Huculak Consulting Services – Providing expert consulting services in business start-up; strategic and market analysis and planning; and, program development. Elizabeth has built her business on over 25 years of experience in senior and executive positions in private and public sector businesses. Former Vice President WADE Canada; former General Manager of CMHC-Prairies and Territories; General Manager – Homes by Avi Calgary; and, VP Strategy and HR-Jayman Masterbuilt. Elizabeth has held several Board of Directors positions including current Chair of the Oakridge Racquet Club; former Director of Calgary Municipal Land Corporation; Calgary Homeless Foundation; and, Carma Centre for Excellence in Housing and Land Development. Elizabeth has also been the President of Blackburn ParentSchool Association, a Past-president and Director of the Blackburn Minor Hockey Association and Volunteer of the year in the City of Gloucester. Elizabeth is a graduate of the University of Alberta in economics and lives in Calgary with her husband, Terry, and their 2 sons
Dion Degrand – VP Finance
Dion Degrand joined the Tennis Alberta Board in November 2015. Dion brings a diverse background with 20 years of investment banking and finance experience. Growing up in the Edmonton area, Dion graduated from the University of Alberta in 1995 with a Bachelor of Commerce. Mr. Degrand holds both a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is currently Managing Director of Investment Banking at one of Canada’s leading independent brokerage firms. Dion and his wife, Christine, along with their two daughters live in Calgary and are actively involved in the Alberta tennis community.
Sita Gourishankar – Secretary
Dr. Sita Gourishankar is an Associate Professor of Medicine and a transplant nephrologist at the University of Alberta Hospital. She serves on numerous committees at the University as well as in her community. Both her children participate in the competitive tennis program at the Royal Glenora Club.
Susan Demchuk – Director
Susan Demchuk, avid tennis enthusiast, has been involved in tennis most of her life as a junior recreational competitor, a five year university team athlete (UBC Thunderbirds), and as an adult club team and tournament player in British Columbia and Alberta. Susan also loves to give back to the game of tennis by volunteering in advisory roles, with past work at Jericho Tennis Club and the Vancouver Open (ATP Challenger event), and many recent years of service as an executive board member at the Calgary Tennis Club (2006-2014) and now Tennis Alberta (2014-2016). Susan works in the field of finance in reporting and analysis and holds CPA, CMA designations.
Rod Harvey – Director
Rod learned to play tennis at the Victoria Lawn Tennis Club and the Racquet Club of Victoria. A former board member of Tennis Alberta (2007-2011), he is currently a director of the Medicine Hat Tennis Club and teaches in the junior elite tennis program. During his time on the Tennis Alberta board, he was the community champion for the Building Tennis Communities (BTC) program in Medicine Hat. Rod received a BA and MA degrees from UBC and a PhD from the University of Alberta. A former Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and faculty member at Medicine Hat College, he is a past board member of the Medicine Hat YM-YWCA, the Medicine Hat Hostel Society and the Medicine Hat Symphonic Society.
Craig Hiddleston – Director
Craig grew up in Vancouver and played competitive junior and adult tennis. He was the #2 ranked junior in BC in under 18s, he was chosen as one of the 10 best players to come out of BC in the 1980s as determined by Tennis BC, he played #1 singles and #1 doubles in NCAA Div I for the University of Texas at San Antonio, and is one of the top Open doubles players in Alberta. Craig is a Chartered Accountant and currently lives in Calgary.
Julia Ciccaglione – Director
Julia is a regulatory professional with 20 years’ experience in the energy sector and environmental matters. She also served as a member of the Disclosure Committee, and the Environmental, Health and Safety Subcommittee of the Board of Directors of a publically traded energy company. Prior to, Julia was a founding member of a junior energy company in Calgary. Her professional background is in environmental science, government relations and stakeholder consultation and holds a BA. Econ, BSc., and MSc., from the University of Calgary. Julia started playing tennis at a young age as a junior at the Tennis Academy in Calgary. She’s continued to play as an adult and hopes to continue fostering the development of the sport in our province.
Born in St. John’s, Antigua, Adolphus Daniel Skepple, Jr. grew up in Kingston, Ontario where he started playing tennis at the age of 15 on the public courts at Henderson Park in Kingston Township. Moving to Edmonton in 2000, Daniel joined the Capilano Tennis Club in 2005 becoming a member at large on the executive in 2009 and the Vice President in 2010. Daniel has been the President of the Capilano Tennis Club since 2015.
Daniel is a 1983 graduate of the University of Ottawa with a degree in English with a minor in Applied Music Performance (trumpet). Daniel enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as a musician after graduation and was eventually posted to his home town band, the Canadian Forces Vimy Band, where he was a featured soloist and compere with the band for 8 years.
Daniel is currently the CEO of ADSjr Capital Group, Inc. an information technology consulting group in Edmonton, Alberta. Daniel is also the founder and Director of Music for Mission Hill Brass of St. Albert, Alberta, an avid golfer and a Star Trek addict!
Daniel and his wife Dorothy live the Forest Heights area of Edmonton and have 4 children and 1 grandson, with another on the way June 2017.
Rob James – Director
Rob James has been head of the Parlee McLaws LLP Labour and Employment Group for over 20 years and has extensive experience in the practice of labour and employment law. Rob advises a wide variety of federally and provincially regulated clients on labour and employment matters including grievance arbitrations, Part III Canada Labour Code adjudications, human rights complaints and hearings, wrongful dismissal litigation, dismissal planning, collective bargaining, privacy complaint hearings, defence of occupational health and safety prosecutions, workers’ compensation issues, and the development of employment contracts and personnel policies.
Rob’s trial and appeal experience is extensive and he has appeared before every level of Court in Alberta. In addition, Rob has comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in, extra-judicial dispute resolution processes, including mediation, judicial dispute resolution, and arbitration.
Rob’s clientele include many public and non-public Alberta based and national companies. He also acts for several secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, and several non-profit organizations.
