Champs Provincials Air Quality Considerations

Due to variable air quality conditions expected throughout the week, matches for the Champs Provincials event may be moved indoors, scoring formats may be modified, or matches may be rescheduled or events such as doubles may be cancelled. The ability to move matches indoors is based on court availability. The Tournament Committee will make all reasonable efforts to secure indoor courts in the event that matches need to moved indoors.

The Tournament Committee (including the Tournament Director, head Official, and the Tennis Alberta Acting Executive Director) will make this determination based on the Government of Alberta and Government of Canada’s published Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) ratings for the Calgary region.

Before the start of play for each day of the event, the Tournament Committee will refer to the AQHI ratings (current and projected ratings) and determine whether matches will be played outdoors or indoors, whether scoring formats will be modified or matches rescheduled.

The AQHI guidelines state that in the event of air quality ratings of 4 or higher, strenuous activity such as exercise particularly for children be reduced or rescheduled.

In the event that outdoor play begins and the AQHI ratings reach 4 or above during the match, the Tournament Committee reserves the right to suspend play and move the match indoors. Indoor court availability will also determine whether the match can be resumed immediately or will need to be rescheduled.

These measures are being implemented to ensure the maintenance of player health and safety, the health of our tournament officials, staff and spectators alike during compromised air quality events.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
