On March 2 the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas defeated the UBC Thunderbirds  at the Western Canadian Championships, earning them a spot at the the 2019 Canadian University National Championships.

“I am really proud of the guys for their performance this weekend. We prepared really well and took on a great team in UBC. It was not a guaranteed win by any stretch and we needed to bring out our best tennis, and that’s what we did,” says Jeff James, Golden Bears Team Captain.

This is the 13th  year in a row UofA has made it to the National Championships.

Golden Bears

The Golden Bears took the UBC Thunderbirds 6-1 in what the Bears describe at a ‘hard fought match.’

Pandas

The Pandas kept the Thunderbirds on their toes eventually winning with an overall score of 5-2.

The 2019 Canadian University National Championships takes place this summer during the Rogers Cup in Toronto,  August 9-11, 2019. So far in the roster at University Nationals is Ontario’s Western University.  Waiting on the announcement of the Teams from the Atlantic region and Quebec.
