The Provincial U10/U12 Regroupings are designed to assemble Alberta’s top junior players for collective training and competition in a structured, high-performance environment. Tennis Alberta recognizes the importance of providing quality developmental and competitive opportunities that complement athletes’ regular club programming.

In collaboration with key provincial and national partners, Tennis Alberta has established this regrouping-based program to enhance the development pathway for Alberta’s leading U10 and U12 athletes.

Program Objectives:

Through the regrouping of Alberta’s top players, the program seeks to deliver consistent access to high-quality training and match-play experiences while fostering a cohesive and supportive provincial tennis network.

Player Selections

32 players will be selected three weeks prior to each Provincial Regrouping:

  • 8 × U10 boys
  • 8 × U10 girls
  • 8 × U12 boys
  • 8 × U12 girls

U10 Selection Process

Criteria (in order of importance):

  1. U12 National Rankings
  2. Recent Alberta U10 tournament results
  3. Recent Alberta U9 tournament results
  4. Consultation with clubs and coaches

The top U10 players appearing in Tennis Canada’s U12 national rankings will receive priority selection for each regrouping. Remaining spots will be allocated based on recent U10 and U9 Rising Stars tournament results.

If vacancies remain, Tennis Alberta will consult with clubs and coaches to identify players demonstrating strong potential, ensuring that emerging athletes have the opportunity to gain valuable exposure and experience within the program.

U12 Selection Process

Criteria (in order of importance):

The top 8 ranked boys and 8 ranked girls in the U12 Tennis Canada Rankings will be selected for each regrouping. If a spot is declined, the next highest ranked player will be offered the open spot.

Coaches – Tennis

High-performance coaches from Tennis Alberta member clubs with a proven track record at both the provincial and national levels will lead each regrouping. Each session will be coordinated by three senior coaches (minimum Coach 2 certification) and one junior coach (minimum Club Pro 1 certification).

Provincial Regrouping Structure

Format: Monthly 3-hour camps hosted at Tennis Alberta member clubs in Red Deer, Calgary, and Edmonton. Additional off-court and/or fitness training will be added before or after sessions. So ideally training sessions will be 4-5 hours.

Inter-Provincial Regroupings may also be offered within Alberta or in collaboration with other provinces.

Tennis Alberta will explore opportunities for inter-provincial match play camps. Selection criteria:

  1. U12: Based solely on National Bank U12 Rankings.
  2. U10: Primarily based on National Bank U12 Rankings. If spots remain, U10 tournament results will be used.
