Out with the red, in with the green.
It’s the end of an era. As Garneau Tennis and Beach Volleyball Club (Garneau) wraps up its 2026 Club Championships this weekend, members are gathering for one final toast on the red shale courts. Shortly after, ground breaks on seven brand-new Har-Tru green clay courts, which will serve the community for the next 30-plus years.

Now approaching its 100th birthday, Garneau has always been an open, welcoming club for all Edmontonians. It’s one of the few places in Alberta where players can regularly train on clay. And it’s had no small number of epic tournaments and community events.
“I thought I was joining the club for the courts. I was actually joining for the community,” said Alex Abboud, Garneau’s VP of Tennis. “With this court replacement and revitalization, we’re ensuring that Garneau continues to be this welcoming place for decades to come. It’s not just about us—it’s about future generations, too.”

This is a place where lifelong friends meet. Where memories are made. And where love (forty-love, at the very least) is found.
To complete the build and upgrade the surrounding site amenities, Garneau is raising $200,000 from the broader community. They have partnered with the Garneau Community League to ensure all contributions directly support the project through the City Arts Centre Land Amenities Grant.
