This month, Alberta’s top junior players took to the courts in Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary to compete in the most prestigious tournament of the season—our Indoor 5-Star Provincial Championships.
With many of the competitors hoping to secure their spots at the upcoming National Championships, the stakes were high, and the players left everything on the court.
U12
Sixty of the province’s youngest, most determined, and skilled players gathered in Calgary to compete for top honours.
Vera Wing delivered a standout performance, capturing the singles title and, alongside Allison Zhang, claiming the doubles championship. On the boys’ side, Vlad Lupu lived up to expectations, winning the singles title and teaming up with Nicholas Garcia to secure the doubles crown.
A special thank you to the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre for hosting the U12 event. Later this month, they’ll again host the U12 Junior National Championships, welcoming players, coaches, and supporters from coast to coast.

The following weekend, up in Edmonton, the U14s took to the stage. There were many standout performances, including some U12s (note the familiar faces) playing against their older peers.
Ezekiel Cheruvallath made his mark, taking home champion honours in both the singles and doubles events. On the girls side, Sophie Murray had a remarkable tournament, reaching the singles finals and winning the doubles title alongside Ruxleigh Bayasen.
A big thank you to the Saville Tennis Centre for hosting both the U14 and U18 events.

In Red Deer, the U16s came together at the Red Deer Tennis Centre for a weekend of intense competition.
On the boys’ side, Morgan Lee had impressive runs, reaching both the singles and doubles finals. Once again, a huge congratulations to Sophie Murray and Ruxleigh Bayasen, who, at 13 and 14 years old respectively, battled above their weight class and took home the doubles title.
