Tennis Alberta would like to provide clarity regarding the seeding process for the upcoming U12, U14, U16 and U18 Indoor Junior Provincials. In the seeding process outlined on the tournament page there was an updated process posted. This was a change from what was outlined at the beginning of the indoor tournament season.
As of February 13, 2019, Tennis Alberta will be seeding U12, U14, U16 and U18 Junior Provincials based on the original structure as outlined in the 2018/19 Junior Competitive Structure which states:
“2.2.3.9 — Seeds for each qualifying tournament and provincials
will be set according to Rogers Rankings. Out-of-Province
seeds are subject to review based on recent significant
results against Alberta players and their Rogers Rankings.”
The proposed revision to the seeding process was intended to ensure that the top four athletes based on their competitive results are separated in the draw.
We appreciate the tennis community’s feedback regarding the timing of the seeding process change. We will continue to be committed to providing a transparent tournament process that supports the development of high-quality tennis in Alberta.
Moving forward Tennis Alberta will be reviewing the seeding process for the 2019 Outdoor Junior Selections and Provincials to include a selection committee.
