In September 2024, the ITF will update the ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) calculation. The WTN now incorporates data from over 80 countries and more than 30 million match records globally, calculated weekly.

KEY CHANGES

1. The ITF has observed that some junior players are being initialized too high on the WTN scale. By adjusting their starting point, ratings will now more accurately reflect improvement as players progress.

2. Player ratings will transition to their true skill level faster. When a player’s initial rating is too high or too low, it will adjust more quickly after their first few matches.

3. Every match impacts a player’s rating, but changes should reflect differences in skill. Based on feedback and data analysis, rating drops after losing to stronger players will be smaller, while beating a higher-rated opponent will still result in a significant rating increase.
