Tennis Alberta is committed to ensuring that everyone in our sport, including athletes, coaches, parents, officials, volunteers, club leaders, and others, can participate in environments that are safe, respectful, and free from maltreatment. Today, we’re sharing an important update on how we’re strengthening that commitment.
Introducing the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism
Tennis Alberta has joined the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM), a new multi-sport provincial initiative developed by the Alberta Sport Leadership Association with funding from the Government of Alberta. This mechanism is designed to provide all members of our community with access to a safe, confidential, and independent process for reporting concerns about maltreatment in sport.
Through this initiative, anyone who witnesses or experiences maltreatment within Tennis Alberta’s programs, events, or activities can now report their concerns through ALIAS, an independent third-party reporting service. ALIAS staff are experienced in handling complaints of maltreatment, are professionally independent of Tennis Alberta, and understand our Safe Sport policies. Every report is received and managed by ALIAS and Tennis Alberta is only engaged as required by policy.
What This Means for You
If you have a concern about maltreatment, whether it involves harassment, abuse, discrimination, or any behaviour that violates our codes of conduct, you now have access to a confidential reporting platform operated entirely outside of our organization. ALIAS will contact you within 48 working hours of receiving your report and aims to reach a receivability conclusion within approximately 10 business days.
You can file a report here or using the button below: Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism – Report a Complaint
Links to Report a Complaint are also available in several places on our website.
Building on Strong Foundations
We want to acknowledge and thank Tennis Canada for their continued leadership and support of sport safety efforts across the country. The national framework, education programs, and safeguarding resources developed by Tennis Canada and the Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) have been instrumental in shaping our approach in Alberta, and continue to guide our work alongside this new provincial mechanism.
We also thank Tennis Canada and their Sport Safety team for their support of our independent third-party complaint resolution needs until the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism was launched. We are very grateful for their guidance and work in addressing maltreatment and making our sport safer.
More information about Tennis Canada’s Sport Safety initiatives and requirements can be found on our Sport Safety Page.
Our Shared Responsibility
Sport safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re a player, parent, coach, official, or volunteer, you play a role in creating an environment where people feel welcome and protected. If a concern about maltreatment comes to the attention of any Tennis Alberta staff member, it will be directed to ALIAS through the reporting process.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the resources on our Sport Safety page, including the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct and the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism Reporting & Independent Resolution Policy. Understanding what constitutes maltreatment and knowing how to report it are important steps we can all take.
This initiative reflects Tennis Alberta’s ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone in our sport. We’re proud to be part of this provincial effort, and we’re grateful for your continued support in making tennis in Alberta a positive experience for all.
