Thank you and a fond farewell to Mary Potter

With a mixture of sadness, pride, excitement, and gratitude, we say farewell to Mary Potter, who is leaving her post at Tennis Alberta for another exciting opportunity in the Edmonton area.

Mary joined the team in June 2024 and served as Manager, Administration, Communication & Member Services. Mary had an incredible impact on the organization and the tennis communities that we serve. She led many new initiatives, working closely with our Facility and Associate Members to develop and promote opportunities to learn and play.

And she seriously kicked butt on the Masters circuit (more on that below).

Mary’s list of duties was long and diverse, and whether you were a competitive player, a recreational member, or a facility representative, she almost certainly helped you out in one way or another.

Perhaps her greatest achievements were the programs and events she developed and managed. Some of these include the recurring Women & Wine events, wheelchair tennis programs, the Tennis Alberta Roadshow, and the Candy Cane Classic tennis tournament. She was also instrumental in seeing the return of the Wheelchair Tennis Event to the Alberta Open.

Mary has been an incredible asset to the Tennis Alberta team and community. She will be missed greatly by us all and we wish her all the best in her new opportunity. But, as a staple of the competitive scene, I’m sure we will be seeing a lot of her on the court and podium going forward! —Colin Latchford, Executive Director

Mary is an longtime, avid Masters Tennis competitor. Mary represented Tennis Alberta all over the country at Masters tournaments, winning countless titles and always being a good sport on and off the court. She is consistently one of—if not the—top ranked women in her age category. Just last month, she travelled to Ottawa to compete at the Steve Stevens Masters Tennis Championships—the most prestigious Masters tournament in Canada. She won both singles and doubles events.

Thank you, Mary, for all that you’ve done. We hope to see you in the community and on the courts. Friendly exhibition matches only, please.
