Tennis Alberta, together with partners The Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) and Tennis Canada, host a series of courses for players looking to start or advance their coach certification.

All Course participants will be required to sign Tennis Alberta’s Enrolment Terms and Conditions upon registration.

INSTRUCTOR COURSE | SUMMER 2024

Instructors are trained to introduce players to the game using Progressive tennis in group lessons (1.0 – 2.5 level) at tennis clubs, parks, community courts and in school gyms. The mission of instructor course is to develop instructors who will stimulate players’ growth and retention, and promote tennis as a sport for life, by delivering a quality tennis program. 

Course Facilitator: Suzana Cavalcante

Minimum Age: 16 years (may take course at 15 years and be evaluated but can only be certified on or after 16th birthday) 

Prerequisites: Minimum level of play: 3.0 

Role in Industry: Beginning Instructor (Summer Camps, Park and Rec, Seasonal Clubs) 

To maintain active certified professional status: TPA membership in addition to professional development every 4 years (or another certification course)

Club Pro 1

Spring 2024 | April 5 – May 5
Calgary & Edmonton

Club Professional 1’s are trained with the skills required to become an entry level assistant pro at an indoor facility or community club leader. This course develops the skills and attributes required to deliver private and group lessons (1.0 – 3.5 level), design basic lesson content, run introductory programs (socials, round robins, and tournaments) and provide solid customer service to members. Participants are required to complete all on-court weekends to be certified.

Commitment: 9 days

Course Fee: $1,000
*Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

Minimum Age: 17 years

Prerequisites: Minimum level of play: 4.5

Minimum Industry Experience: Candidates must have 150 hours of tennis teaching work experience or if less have passed the Instructor course with honors.

Minimum Certification Requirement: Instructor

Role in Industry: Entry Level Club Professional at year round facility; Club Professional at community or seasonal
facility: Park and Rec Program Leader
