In 2021, significant lobbying efforts took place, working with club and community partners as Tennis Alberta collectively advocated for the sport of tennis to be fully opened across all stages. We were the only province to reopen a full tournament schedule as of June 2021.

Tennis Alberta continues to focus on introducing prospective players to the sport through Try Tennis events, Touch Tennis events, and Rogers Rookie tours. More events encouraging people to get active and make tennis a sport for life are planned for 2022.

A critical piece to the development of tennis is continued education for the community. Whether that is coaching courses- adding new coaches and supporting coach development, officiating courses to increase the volume of certified officials to back tournaments, or providing learning opportunities like the year-round covered courts webinar- each learning endeavour supports the various needs of the community.

In 2022 Tennis Alberta will target several important initiatives. Three strategic priorities will be:

  • Year-Round Facility Advocacy: Alberta has one court for every 100,000 people. Tennis continues to grow in popularity. Accessible year-round facilities are required to meet the demand.
  •  Community Outreach & Support: Tennis Alberta is planning community visits throughout the province to assist seasonal clubs with the growth and promotion of tennis programming in their regions.
  • Membership Services: Adding to Tennis Alberta’s newly reformed member benefits applicable at the club/community and individual tiers. Expanding upon the overall volume of benefits & services available will continue to enhance the value of Tennis Alberta membership across all spheres.

Tennis Alberta wishes to thank all stakeholders who participated in the AGM. We look forward to continuing to grow the sport and the tennis community in Alberta, working with our valued club partners, sponsors/brand partners, and individual members.
