Our team has been meeting with the Junior Development Committee to improve the competitive experience. A recent outcome of these meetings was to change registration opening times for all U10 and under events, including all Rogers First Set Tour – Rising Stars and Rookie tournaments.

This change aims to give parents and guardians a fairer opportunity to register their children to these events, which often fill up quickly.

Effective immediately, for all U10 and under events, including Rogers First Set Tour – Rookie and Rising Stars tournaments, registration will now open at 6:00 PM on Thursdays.

Please note that registration for all other tournaments, U12 and above, will remain the same, opening at noon on Fridays unless posted otherwise.

Parent Education Requirement

Important reminder: For all U9 and U10 players, at least one parent or guardian must complete the Respect in Sport for Parents course. Players who do not meet this requirement will be removed from the draw.

This is a free course (for now) offered by Tennis Canada. To learn more about the course and how to complete it, read our prior announcement.

Supporting Your Junior Player

As parents of current or aspiring competitive junior players, we all share the responsibility of creating a positive and healthy environment where young athletes can enjoy the game and reach their full potential.

At Tennis Alberta, our goal is to help parents understand how to best support their child during tournament play. Please review the following key reminders:

  • No coaching during matches — Do not communicate with your child, visually or verbally, during a match. Doing so may result in a penalty.
  • No outside officiating — Refrain from making line calls, correcting scores, or intervening. If a dispute arises, players should refer to on-site staff. Please remember that your viewing angle or distance may give a different impression of where the ball lands. Even trained officials make occasional errors.
  • Let them problem-solve — Encourage independence and resilience on court.
  • Stay calm, positive, and supportive — Model composure and good sportsmanship.
  • Reward effort, not results — Focus on growth, learning, and perseverance.
  • Build community, not conflict — Be a positive presence for all families. We’re all here to help young athletes enjoy the game and reach their potential.

Thank you for supporting our young athletes and helping make tennis a positive experience for all.
