The Game.Set.Equity. initiative is designed to promote women’s participation in tennis. Through this program, girls will gain the skills and confidence to lead beginner tennis programs, with either children or adults.

By taking this program, participants will:

  • Become a fully certified Tennis Canada Instructor
  • Build a network of like-minded girls and women across Alberta and Canada
  • Pursue their talents and interests in a safe and welcoming environment
  • Gather in friendly discussion groups with fellow athletes and guiding Facilitators to discuss topics of interest
  • Enjoy a special social event and receive some great Game. Set. Equity. swag,
  • Join the Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) and be eligible for TPA-member benefits.
Being a tennis instructor offers a unique opportunity to stay active, earn great income, and immerse yourself in the sport you love. This program is the perfect first step toward an exciting, rewarding career in tennis.

Program DETAILS

The program consists of two components:

1. LEADERSHIP WEBINARS

Engage in five inspirational webinars, designed to equip you with the tools to succeed. Each session runs for 1.5 hours on the following Sundays:

  • February 9, 6:30-8 PM
  • February 16, 6:30-8 PM
  • March 16, 6:30-8 PM
  • March 23, 6:30-8 PM
  • April 4, 6:30-8 PM

2. INSTRUCTOR COURSE COMPONENT

The on-court portion of the program will be held at the Saville Tennis Centre in Edmonton. This comprehensive, 35-hour course runs over two weekends (including two Friday evening webinars). Attendance at both sessions is mandatory.

  • Weekend 1: April 4-6
  • Weekend 2: April 11-13

Who can participate in this program?

  • Young women, 14 – 17 years old (must turn 15 the year of participation).
  • Minimum Playing Level: 3.0
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills
  • No minimum certification requirements

What you will learn

  • Ability to demonstrate fundamental tennis skills
  • How to lead and manage a large group of players
  • How to lead tennis tournaments and play activities as a court captain

  • How to engage in job interview and networking opportunities

Successful participants will receive:

  • Official Tennis Instructors Certification as part of the Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) and the Coaching Association of Canadian & Provincial Association (CAC)*
    • Included a year membership to the TPA
  • Game.Set.Equity. Girls Leadership Program completion certificate.

*Participants aged 14 and 15 will earn the Community Leader “trained” certificate at the end of the Instructor Course. If meeting all requirements, the “Tennis Instructor” certification will be awarded to them on their 16th birthday.
