Dear member,

As we prepare for another enjoyable outdoor tennis season, I am pleased to update you on a few key areas Tennis Alberta have prioritized ahead of the summer.

Tennis Alberta staff have been working behind the scenes to maximize opportunities for all levels of players, which will create positive tennis opportunities for all of our members. Here is a high-level overview of a few crucial initiatives the association has been directing attention towards in recent months:

  • Tournament Schedule: A comprehensive sanctioned tournament schedule, with more tournaments looking to be added, includes something for junior, adult and senior players of all skill levels.
  • TENNISfest 2022: Tennis Alberta is pleased to partner with Tennis Edmonton and Edmonton Junior Tennis Society on this large, FREE Try Tennis event. With events for ages 3-83, we invite everyone to share this event with neighbours and friends. More information at tennisfest2022.ca
  • 2022 Niagara Summer Games: U17 and U19 junior players continue to participate in camps prepping for the Canada Summer Games to be held on August 6-21 in Niagara, Ontario. Team Alberta will be announced mid-June.
  • Tennis Alberta Summer Community Visits: A sequence of free technical visits are planned throughout the summer months. Each visit shall offer support to community partners, which shall be centred around the delivery of summer programming. Areas of priority shall include coach development, lesson and other important planning, which shall facilitate enjoyable on-court tennis activities across all ages and levels.

This year, Tennis Alberta is proud to commence a partnership with The Cahill Group of Companies cahill.ca who shall provide support as the title sponsor for the Cahill 109th Alberta Open presented by Lexus of Edmonton. Through this partnership, Tennis Alberta is enhancing the quality of the player experience, including offering a large player BBQ. Players from across Alberta and beyond are once again expected to sign-up to compete in this signature summer event happening July 29 – August 1. Let’s make this the largest Alberta Open in history!

Tennis enthusiasts know that court time is at a premium, and Albertans need more year-round and cost-effective court access. Tennis Alberta continues to cooperate closely with Tennis Canada, as we advocate for more year-round courts. Together we are engaging with municipalities and tennis supporters across the province. We invite the tennis community to help support these efforts through advocacy for our sport.

Membership with Tennis Alberta continues to be one of the best ways to support the sport, helping it grow throughout the province. We have upgraded Tennis Alberta membership, thus providing a full complement of benefits, including discounts on clothing, hotels, car rentals, tennis training apps, and more. New or renewed members also get a 50% discount on one sanctioned tournament – another reason to get a membership and play a tournament this summer!

I would like to wish the tennis community all the best for the 2022 outdoor season on behalf of the organization. No matter how you enjoy the sport, whether it is competing in tournaments, playing in your club’s summer league, or getting out to hit a few times a week with friends and family, enjoy the summer.

I’m happy to connect with community members on any questions or comments. Don’t hesitate to contact me at alan.mackin@tennisalberta.com.

Warm wishes for an enjoyable summer,

Alan Mackin
